I made it to Schoolhouse Falls and Lizard Log Falls for the first time last week. There are about 7 waterfalls in the area, but you'd have to do some serious hiking to hit them all in a day. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't hold up that long and, on this day, I was limited in time anyways. First off, here is a video I put together that shows how to get to the spot. It had been way too long since I was able to get out for walk amongst nature with my camera in hand. Three months maybe? This is my stress reliever, my way of getting away to .... breath. I wanted a place that was new, interesting, and photographic. Pedestal Rocks fit the bill. This was a place that intrigued me and the weather didn't matter much for photography. The skies were far too clear for decent light and even though we just had 1 to 2 inches of rain, it had been too dry for too long for any waterfalls to be decent. After visiting the cascades at the Ross Foundation, I still had some time so I went to Lake Catherine State Park.  I go here a lot as it's a beautiful park.  I had never hiked the Dam Mountain Trail before though.  So, I made it my goal for the day!

I took advantage of my Friday morning after yesterday's rain to go and find a series of cascades at the Ross Foundation.  I had never been to this location before so it was a real treat!  The area was SLICK though so I had to be extra careful.  I slipped and slammed my tripod into a boulder at one point!

I've been here a lot lately, but I wanted a short trip and an opportunity to use my 10 stop ND filter.  The above photo was taken with two shots.  One for foreground and one with the 10 stop filter to make the waterfall and water silky smooth.  The waterfall ended up being a 4 minute exposure.

Bud.... Weis.... Hey, where is Er?!?! On my way down to catch some photos of flowers and scenery, I saw these two frogs hanging out around a pond.  These frogs are HUGE!  I almost thought they were fake!

After speaking at a men's retreat hosted by Flatwoods Baptist Church, pastor Joe Morell drove me around town.  He took me down to Blanchard Springs which was flowing with lots of water!

I often take Fridays off from my "real job" and enjoy some photography time.  I was hoping to find some fall colors before it was too late.  Oh, and this was my first time shooting since I got my Nikon D600 back from repair!  :D

I had heard of a lot of people visiting Ponca and Boxley, Arkansas. They are both found in Northern Arkansas along the Buffalo River area. I decided to head that way in search of fall colors and waterfalls! First, I had to con my brother into joining me. After all, a Mustang isn't exactly a good vehicle for those county dirt roads!

  I had some time to shoot a few macros today.  The challenge today though was low light and a bit of wind... not good for macro photography!  I decided to crank up my ISO to speed up the shutter and avoid motion blur.  I went as high as 5000 ISO!  I'm still amazed at the low noise levels of the D600.
